Paediatric Health

General health screenings for infants, children and adolescents.

Why are well-child exams important?

Healthy living habits start from a young age, which is why Dr Thusi highly recommends that parents bring in their children for routine general health checks even if they are not sick.

The well-child visit is an opportunity for Dr Thusi to examine the child and guide you as the parent. She can compare the child's development to previous visits and form a baseline for your child's growth and development.

The visit is also a chance to talk to parents about safety issues, nutrition and advances in medicine that may benefit the child.

Additional benefits include:

  • Dr Thusi can know your child as an individual. She can anticipate and explain how treatments and medicines affect your child's activities and development.
  • She can monitor the medicines your child is prescribed to help avoid situations where two medicines will not work well when taken together.
  • Dr Thusi will become very familiar with your child's medical history and could help explain it to any specialists your child may need to see. She will also become familiar with your family's overall medical history, which is beneficial for deciding what treatment will work best.
  • She can keep track of vaccinations, allergies or any lab results.

How often should your child come in for a well-child exam?

Children younger than 2 years must be seen routinely by Dr Linda Thusi at the following milestones:

  • 6 weeks
  • 3 Months
  • 6 Months
  • 9 Months
  • 12 Months
  • 18 Months

Depending on their overall health, older children should come in every few months or yearly.

What can you expect during your child's health screening?

Dr Thusi will examine your child from head to toe, measure their growth, and emphasise patient and parental education during a general health check.

In addition to receiving recommendations on vaccinations to prevent infectious diseases, your child will have their height and weight compared to growth charts. To make sure that your child is developing correctly, the neurodevelopment of your infant or child is also assessed. If your child is not meeting developmental milestones, this may be a sign of a condition that needs to be addressed and treated, such as an underlying sickness or abnormality.

Conditions including cradle cap, thrush, acne, eczema, and diaper rash will be looked for on your child's skin. Following that, Dr Thusi will examine the child's feeding, urination, vomiting, sleeping patterns, crying patterns, and behaviour. Dr Thusi can tell from your responses if your child is experiencing problems like colic, teething, allergies, or anxiety.

At ThusiMed Services, we go all out to create a welcoming and homely environment for your little one. Schedule a paediatric consultation with a provider you can trust.
